5/13/2023 0 Comments The fifth season book 2![]() Hartley’s The Go-Between, which begins with, “The past is a foreign country they do things differently there.” The Fifth Season also has its jaunty, deeply heartfelt eye fixed firmly on the past, and on all that has gone wrong to make the world –– the book’s world, and ours –– as muddle-headed and broken as it is. Now, my all-time favorite opening line in fiction comes from L.P. The Fifth Season opens with a prologue entitled, “you are here.” Its first sentence: “Let’s start with the end of the world, why don’t we?” Jemisin’s The Broken Earth trilogy, and each of the other titles in the series also won the Hugo Award! And if that still isn’t enough to grab your attention, the third title, The Stone Sky, also made off with the Locus and Nebula Awards. Oh, and did I mention? The Fifth Season is book one of N.K. ![]() ![]() Maybe that’s why it won the 2016 Hugo Award. The Fifth Season is one of the finest novels I have read, period. I picked up the lone book on the shelf, toted it home, and read, with increasing awe, one of the finest science fiction novels of my adult life. Over it hung a sign, carved in blasted stone, reading, The Fifth Season. ![]() So, there I was, strolling through the endless corridors of Black Gate’s Indiana compound, when I chanced upon a book shelf I hadn’t noticed before. ![]()

5/12/2023 0 Comments The Game by Vi Keeland![]() ![]() ![]() It’s also fun to read enemies to lovers books that are based more on a healthy dose of competition rather an all out hate stirring up the relationship. I’m partial to the romance novels where there is true animosity between the main characters due to a misunderstanding or an incident that occurred when they first met, setting their relationship off on the wrong foot. The saying is that there is a thin line between love and hate, and that couldn’t be more true when it comes to romance books in this popular trope. This initial animosity often leads to great banter between characters as the sparks inevitably fly and as those feelings begin to turn from hate to love. The relationships in these books always start off with a bit of hate stewing between the main characters. There are a lot of romance book tropes that I love to read (and I few I don’t) and enemies to lovers stories is one trope that never disappoints. ![]() If you’re a fan of enemies to lovers books, then you’re going to want to add each of these books to your must read list! Why Enemies to Lovers Books are the Best ![]() 5/12/2023 0 Comments The toll house by carly reagon![]() ![]() That for me is even worse – just imagining what is going to happen. There’s no down right horror moment as the novel is more ticking time bomb kind of scary. The story was gripping and unsettling from the start. Kelda and her young son move into the toll house for a fresh start but not all is as it seems once she finds a death mask hidden behind a wall. I read a bit about toll houses when I spotted this book as it seemed as if it was going to lead me down a dark path…and it did. There are no real locations in this book but it’s the setting of the old toll house that is the real draw. ![]() This is one of those novels where I question why I read creepy novels at night. #Bookreview BookTrail the locations in The Toll HouseĪ novel to transport you deep inside the walls of a Toll Houseīejeepers. The reasons for the venomous hatred of Jews, and of other groups like them in countries around the world, are explored in an essay that asks, "Are Jews Generic?" Misconceptions of German history in general, and of the Nazi era in particular, are also re-examined. An essay titled "The Real History of Slavery" presents a jolting re-examination of that tragic institution and the narrow and distorted way it is too often seen today. ![]() ![]() It presents eye-opening insights into the historical development of the ghetto culture that is today wrongly seen as a unique black identity-a culture cheered on toward self-destruction by white liberals who consider themselves "friends" of blacks. ![]() In a series of long essays, this book presents an in-depth look at key beliefs behind many mistaken and dangerous actions, policies, and trends. Plainly written, powerfully reasoned, and backed with a startling array of documented facts, Black Rednecks and White Liberals takes on not only the trendy intellectuals of our times but also such historic interpreters of American life as Alexis de Tocqueville and Frederick Law Olmsted. This explosive new book challenges many of the long-prevailing assumptions about blacks, about Jews, about Germans, about slavery, and about education. ![]() 5/12/2023 0 Comments Review the tenant of wildfell hall![]() I have never met, and most certainly will never meet, a man who will be so devoted to his beloved as he is. ![]() ![]() Gilbert Markham, at least in my point of view, is an unrealistic character. In the The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, we meet Helen Graham, a painter who moves into an abandoned old house,”Wildfell hall”, with her child and lady’s maid. It quickly became one of my favorite books, one I will keep reading over and over again. It has that unmistakable gothic air that you can recognize in all the Bronte’s novels. This book is such an amazing description of one woman’s struggle to raise her child, live and love in Victorian England. ![]() 5/12/2023 0 Comments By Pain of Death by Suzanne Clay![]() ![]() This book is intended only for adult audiences. When the god introduces himself as Seph and explains that he needs a safe place where his life-entwined mother can’t follow, Hades is forced to confront the loneliness that dwells deep within him-and his personal belief that he deserves little more than death as well.īy Pain of Death is a 9,500-word low heat M/M retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth with a disabled protagonist and a trans man love interest. Hades’s predictable days are interrupted by the arrival of Hermes with a stranger of a deity that Hades can barely recall. It is a painful, isolated existence within Hades’s palace, but far safer than returning to the Underworld beyond its doors. With each arrival of another soul, the agony they experienced in their final moments seeps into his ichor. Hades has lost track of the passage of time beyond sorting the deceased into their eternal homes. ![]() ![]() In these ten stories, Rash spins a haunting allegory of the times we live in - rampant capitalism, the severing of ties to the natural world in the relentless hunt for profit, the destruction of body and soul with pills meant to mute our pain - and yet within this world he illuminates acts of extraordinary decency and heroism. A virtuosic novelist, poet, and story writer, he evokes the beauty and brutality of the land, the relentless tension between past and present, and the unquenchable human desire to be a little bit better than circumstances would seem to allow (to paraphrase Faulkner). ![]() Rash has long been a revered presence in the landscape of American letters. ![]() PEN / Faulkner Award finalist and New York Times bestselling author Ron Rash discusses his latest book In the Valley: Stories and a Novella Based on Serena. ![]() 5/12/2023 0 Comments Abarat book 2![]() ![]() ![]() Unter dem Einfluss einiger Untergrundfilme, die zu dieser Zeit im Umlauf waren, entschloss sich Barker selbst zur Kamera zu greifen.
